Introduction
Would you like to learn the essentials of how to groom your own dog? Or are you interested in the dog grooming industry and would like to experience a taster day?
This day course is designed for owners who would like to learn how to groom their own dogs under tuition. The course is also suitable for those considering a career in dog grooming.
I will only have two students at a time to ensure a relaxed atmosphere and the best learning experience.
Course Outline
The day will start with an introduction and Health & Safety requirements. I will then teach you all elements of the dog grooming process with you having the opportunity to groom you own dog from start to finish. I will also show you the tools that best suit your dog's type and style. You don't need to bring anything with you apart from your dog!
- Introduction to grooming equipment.
- Bathing & drying.
- Nails, ears & pads.
- Brushing.
- Clipping & Styling.
- Basic scissoring.
- Head, ear and eye trimming.
- Hints and tips to use at home.
Requirements
You will need to bring along your own dog for this course (small/medium dog), and your dog needs to:
- Be used to, and comfortable with, grooming.
- Be comfortable with another dog in the same environment.
- Not have excessive matting.
- Have enough coat growth - ideally 4-8 weeks since their last groom. (This course is not suitable for young puppies due to its duration).
Please wear suitable comfortable clothing.
About Me
I have been Dog Grooming for seven years. After completing my City & Guilds training, I set up a Dog Grooming business near Filey called Wagtime we then relocated to Kimberworth where I set up Walkworth Farm Dog Grooming.
I have learnt so much over the last seven years not only about the actual grooming of dogs but also the Dog Grooming Industry. I have seen so many people spend a significant amount of money on Dog Grooming Training, purchase equipment to set up a new business but then realise that dog grooming isn't for them. I feel by experiencing a training day on dog grooming will give individuals an opportunity to decide if it's an industry they would like to pursue.

Reiki at Walkworth Farm Dog Grooming Salon.
Regular dog grooming is important for the health and wellbeing of any dog and I believe it should be a positive experience for your dog. One-to-one dog grooming enables me to apply Reiki skills into the dog grooming process. Reiki is a hands on healing method that originated in Japan. Its based on the idea that all living beings have life energy flowing through them. When life energy is high your dog is healthy, balanced more relaxed and less likely to get sick. When it is low they are often more affected by stress and less resistant to illness.

Preparing your puppy for their first groom
Many puppy parents make the mistake of waiting until their puppy is six months of age before taking them for their first groom. However, s just as long as they have had all their vaccinations they are ready for their first groom.
Walkworth Dog Grooming offers a puppy groom which includes a bath, light brush out, nail clipped, ear cleaning, light trim where needed usually around the face.
It normally takes 2-3 sessions for your puppy to become comfortable with the grooming process.

Located on Droppingwell Road, as you are going down the road from the Droppingwell Pub you will pass Millmoor Juniors Football Club on the right and Farmview road on your left. Carry on down about 200 meters and you will see on your right Walkworth Farm entrance. There are black electric gates with Walkworth Farm on, when customers arrive I will open the gates so they drive up to the farm. Please note if you use applemaps it will take to the old entrance which is no longer in use.
